Gérard Lopez has made his own again: Boavista will not participate in professional competitions for the 2025-2026 season, for lack of having been able to obtain his license from the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP). Relegated sportingly in the second division, the club could not provide the non-detest certificates required by the tax authority and Social Security. An attempt by Gérard Lopez, the majority shareholder, to deposit 2.5 million euros to regularize the financial situation has failed, the funds not yet available.
Consequently, Boavista will be relegated administratively to the third step, under the supervision of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), provided you obtain a license. The club, champion of Portugal in 2001 and present in the first division since 2014, will thus have its first season so low since 2013-2014, after having already been sanctioned in the past in the case of the Final Apito.
