Barça sports director, Deco, publicly addressed the complex file of Nico Williams, revealing the essential elements for his recruitment potential.
It's no longer a secret, FC Barcelona is preparing the arrival of Nico Williams this summer. The left winger of Athletic Bilbao has already given its green light to reach the Blaugrana ranks. However, a major obstacle still blocks the conclusion of the file: the payment of the release clause, set at 60 million euros by the Basque club, which does not seem ready to facilitate the departure of its star attacker to a rival.
Questioned this Sunday in the columns of The avant -gardeBarça sports director, Deco, spoke without detour on the burning file of the 2024 European champion. The manager also recalled the fundamental criteria for a player to join the Catalan club – conditions that Nico seems to be perfectly fulfilled.
“Here it is not a friends club”
“There is an obvious criterion for a player to come to Barça: he has to believe in our project. Last season was not done for Nico, for me the Dani Olmo operation was a priority. Players like Nico, and others show today that they want to come. If the circumstances are given, we will try it. In his case, he has a clause. We gathered with his agent to find out what the player wants and from there, we will see if it is possible ”said the Portuguese leader.
Deco also mentioned the privileged relationships that Nico Williams maintains with some of his teammates in Spanish selection and FCB players, notably Lamine Yamal. An asset for group life, but which cannot weigh more than the mentality and the desire to win.
“We are concerned about harmony in the locker room, we have a very good locker room and we want to maintain that. What is most important with players like Nico or Luis (Diaz, Editor's note) is that they are very hungry and who want to triumph. We have always had the idea of recruiting Nico. His friendship with Lamine Yamal is a good thing, but here it is not a club of friends, we come here to work and try to win. Afterwards, if they get along well, so much the better “explained the former metronome of FC Porto.
