The Socialist Prime Minister, one of the most critical votes in Europe on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which he describes as “Barbarism”said he was proud to see Spain “shine like an example” in the defense of human rights at the international level.

The 80th edition of the Vuelta, promised to the Danish Jonas Vingegaard, is disrupted quasi-quota by Propalestian demonstrations targeting the Israel-Prime Tech team since its arrival on Spanish territory, in the context of the war in Gaza. This mobilization, which occurs in a context of great tension between Israel and Spain, prompted the organizers to shorten several stages, as in Bilbao and Pontevedra, as well as the Valladolid time trial on Thursday.

On Monday, the head of the Spanish government, who recognized the state of Palestine in May 2024, announced measures for “put an end to the genocide in Gaza”including an embargo on arms sales to Israel, which had caused a diplomatic crisis with the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Despite tensions, the 21st and last stage of the Vuelta will arrive as planned Sunday in Madrid, with reinforced security measures. The prefecture of the Madrid region had thus indicated a reinforcement of 1,500 police forces would be deployed on the stages of Saturday and Sunday in order to reconcile “Security” runners and “The legitimate law of any citizen to demonstrate”.

Some 1,100 additional national police officers will be deployed on Sunday in the streets of the capital to secure the arrival of the race, the largest deployment of this type from the NATO summit in Madrid in 2022, the prefecture specifies.
