Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) suffered in the last ascent of this Tour of Spain ! Distancing at times, the Briton clung to the leaders, and in particular to Jai Hindley (Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe), to keep his 3rd place in the general classification. Thus, this Sunday, the double Olympic mountain bike champion should, for the first time in his career, get on the podium of a large tour. Tom Pidcock has therefore largely surpassed its expectations of the beginning of Vuelta who were to finish in the top 10 in the general classification, a performance which he describes as “greater by (his) career”.
“It was like a day race”
After the line, Tom Pidcock appeared exhausted as he drew on his reserves to hold the wheel of the best. However, the Briton was more than happy with his race and results during the three weeks of racing: “I think I'm just more tired than ever. This morning, I was in great shape for today. We had two easier days. Yesterday, it was relatively easy compared to the last days we had. It was like a day race, where I am good. It was difficult to keep the same pace in the ascent. I knew I was in control, I didn't want to go after my limit.
The objective is therefore more than fulfilled for the Briton who should offer his first podium in the big round: “I'm proud of myself. I think it's the greatest performance of my career. The best I can do is calm me. Every day, I'm just concentrated and I assure myself that I am ready to run. Now, I can stay here, not put my jacket and drink juice. I enjoyed running the general classification. I enjoyed the challenge. But it's difficult. Now I am on the podium.
