In the aftermath of the takeover of power Léo Bisiaux (Decathlon AG2R) and on the eve of the queen stage at La Lagunas de Neila, it was the backpackers who spoke this Friday on the 4th and penultimate stage of the Tour de Burgos. A solid group of seven runners stands out to form the morning escape. We find there Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Ben Zwiehoff (Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe), Javier Romo (Movistar Team), Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious), Rui Costa (EF Education – EasyPost), Nickolas Zukowsky (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) et Larry Warbasse (Tudor Pro Cycling Team). As the last 40 kilometers approach, the advance of the breakaway on the peloton is still around 3'30 “, enough to consider a stage victory despite the hilly course which awaits them before the arrival. With a gap which remains similar at 25 km from the finish, the seven leading men can start to prepare their plan to raise their arms.
The question then becomes: who will be the first to attack? The answer comes from the experienced Carusowhich stands out before the last ascent of the day, 17km from the finish. Despite his age (37 years old), the Italian shows that he still has solid legs: he does not turn around after his start -up and addresses the last 5 kilometers with 1'20 '' in advance, a difference sufficient to spin towards an impressive and without dispute victory. Behind him, Rui Oliveira, Rui Costa, Ben Zwiehoff et Larry Warbasse compete for the other two places on the podium. Oliveira et Costa manage to take the 2nd and 3rd places.
