Since Sunday, the little queen has a face: that of Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt. At 33, the Frenchwoman won the Tour de France women from her first participation, just one year after her Olympic title in mountain biking in Paris. More than ever, the Rémoise dominates world female cycling, after years of domination on all possible terrains, handlebars, or almost. Here are three figures that bear witness to the domination and versatility of the one who stands out as the largest French cyclist in history.
16 Winners of the Tour de France, from their first participation, such as Merckx, Hinault, Pogacar …
Since Sunday, February 3, comparisons are raining between Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt and Tadej Pogacar. On one point, at least, they are truthful: the two yellow jerseys this summer won the big loop from their first participation. This was indeed the case for Slovenian in 2020. In total, men and women combined, 16 cyclists achieved such a feat: 14 men in 112 editions of the Tour de France, four women in 10 editions of the Tour de France (if we include editions of the Tour de France female between 1984 and 1989 and the Tour de France women since 2022).
5 Doubled Tour de France – Paris -Roubaix like Merkcx and Hinault
At the beginning of April, Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt had already marked the spirits by winning in Paris-Roubaix, a few weeks after her return to road cycling. By taming the hell of the north and then the big loop in the same season, the Champenoise signed an unprecedented double in female cycling, knowing that Paris-Roubaix has only existed since 2020 for women. As a comparison, only four men succeeded in this double in a century: the last being Bernard Hinault in 1981.
15 times world champion, in four disciplines
Since 2012, Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt pedal all the time. So that the Frenchwoman, even by putting cycling on the side road for more than six years, has carved an exceptional record. In addition to this Tour de France women 2025, La Flèche Wallonne 2014, its Olympic title in mountain biking in 2024, or its eight titles of champion of France, the Rémoise was world champion 15 times, in 4 different disciplines. This makes it the most crowned fourth cyclist in history at the Worlds.
She can even boast of having endorsed several rainbow jerseys the same year, as in 2015 when she was world champion of cyclo-cross, cross-country, mixed mountain bike relays, or in 2022 where she cumulates four planetary titles: in cross-country, cross-country short-tracks, in Gravel and mountain biking.
