After two weeks of racing, the spectrum of zero pointed has resurfaced. But Valentin Paret-Peintre has tamed Mont Ventoux and saved France from a Tour de France without a tricolor stage victory, which history has only known twice: in 1926 and in 1999. If the Blues only raised their arms once on this 112nd edition, and known only one other podium with the third place of Julian Alaphilippe in Carcassonne, this large loop remains quite success collective disappointments.
Kévin Vauquelin, new darling of the French
He had already been talked about in particular by approaching the victory on the Tour of Switzerland in late June. That his name be painted on the road at home in Normandy, you could expect it. But even even in the Alps, the name of Kévin Vauquelin appeared on the roads of certain passes, painted by supporters. Little known to the general public before departure, the runner of Arkéa-B & B revealed himself, fighting with the great leaders, rising for a time on the podium of the general classification, and by wearing the white jersey. The hot air balloon in his effigy, a surprise organized by her family during the visit to his village, also made a lot of talk about him. And his freshness in his statements made him endearing to the eyes of the French public, which now recognizes him. He finally finished 7th.
Glory for Valentin Paret-Peintre
Julian Alaphilippe thought he had won during the stage in Carcassonne, raising his arms on the line without being aware that two runners, Tim Wellens and Victor Campenaerts, had ahead of him. So, the first and only real French victory was long overdue and finally arrived at the top of the legendary Mont Ventoux, thanks to Valentin Paret-Peintre (Sudal Quick-Step). The native of Annemasse seized his luck after the abandonment of his leader Remco Evenepoel, and was tenacious in the wheel of Ben Healy (EF Education-Easypost), before exceeding him in the sprint, for a second big tour in his career, at 24, after that on the Giro in 2024.
Revelation Jordan Jegat
Before the big departure in Lille, Jordan Jegat had not made a mystery on the ambitions of the Totalnergies team: “We don't really have leaders, we are all there to chase stage victories”. A classic configuration for Vendée training, led by Jean-René Bernaudeau. But this historic team, created in 2000 (ex-Bouygues Telecom, ex-Europcar), finally found itself to play the general classification thanks to the great shape of … Jordan Jegat. For its second round of France, the 26 -year -old Breton was the tricolor revelation of this 2025 edition. Enough to allow the Vendée stable to find the gratin of the Tour, ten years after 10th place by Pierre Rolland.
The 0 pointed at Cofidis, Groupama-FDJ and Decathlon-Ag2R
If the victory of Valentin Paret-Peintre allowed France to avoid a tour without a victory, it did not soften the note for the French teams. Upon arrival in Paris, no tricolor training won a stage in this 112nd edition. Very little in sight, Cofidis and Groupama-FDJ (orphan of the David Gaudu package) never seemed in a position to do so. No more than Decathlon Ag2r, Arkea-B & B Hotel, and Totalenergies, but the latter, however, have the excuse for having each placed a runner in the general top 10: namely, respectively, The Austrian Félix Gall (5th), the French Kévin Vauquelin (7th), and Jordan Jegat (10th).
