A huge tarpaulin was deployed on Thursday along the 18th stage of the Tour de France by reporters Without Borders (RSF), calling for the liberation of Christophe Gleizes, French sports journalist currently imprisoned in Algeria. On this large banner is the message: “Christophe Gleizes, sports journalist, 7 years in prison – #FreeGleize, sign the petition, join the mobilization”. A clear demand carried by the NGO at the heart of one of the most followed sporting events in France and in the world.
The 100 m2 tarpaulin was deployed on the occasion of the lively stage – Courchevel Col de la Loze a few kilometers from the top of the stage. “Our message is simple: Christophe Gleizes, the only French journalist locked up to date in the world, must be released”underlined Anne Bocandé, editorial director of RSF. She also recalled that “Christophe Gleizes is also a great fervent of cycling and the Tour de France”.
This mobilization comes as the situation of Christophe Gleizes, sentenced to seven years in prison in Algeria, arouses a large concern in France. The petition launched in favor of his release has already collected more than 18,000 signatures.
